Welcome to Ja Ja Siberians

Siberians originated from Russia's forests

 They are Angels Among Us

I believe that angels come from somewhere up above -- they come for you and me to teach us how to give, to live, and to love...

I believe that the Siberians are my little angels sent down from up above to show us how to live and teach us how to give ...

The Siberian is different from most other kitties who produce a protein, FEL D1, which is in their saliva and then transfers to the fur when they clean themselves. This is an exquisite allergen for some sensitive individuals, meaning that contact with a regular kitty results in streaming eyes, sneezing, and general discomfort on the human side of the relationship. The Siberian breed produces a very low level of  FEL D1, which in turn means that 80% or more of people allergic to other kitties are NOT allergic to Siberians.

  James & Janice

The mom is Janice; the dad is Jim.  I (Janice) have had many pets over the past 40 years. These ranged from wild creatures rescued, as well as nursing homeless, defenseless babies, e.g., even an opossum which I returned to a sanctuary. I have had in my classroom when I was a teacher or currently have, gerbils, other rodents, aquatic fish, turtles, and even Jake-the-Snake who lives in our flowers and bushes.  Jim and I have two talking parrots, Lucy and Magnum.....  Magnum talks in two voices (a male/female dialog) and sings arias (opera)... Lucy provides sound effects.  (Magnum's favorite trick is for us to pick up the phone just as it stops ringing - he then says: "I got it already!).

Besides the Siberians, we have had Himalayans, Persians, a Ragdoll, and currently RagaMuffins - see www.jajaragamuffins.com.

It has been thrilling to breed and show the Siberians and watch the breed develop popularity knowing it is fast becoming one of the most desirable pedigreed kitty-breeds for families. These are wonderful rare breed pedigreed kitties, the Siberians and the RagaMuffins and we have been most fortunate to come to love them as well as to learn about and understand them.

For 20 years, I bred Bearded Collies... in the beginning when they were a rare breed and first appeared in the US .... and have shown at AKC and CKC shows all over the country...Prestigious Westminster every year, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Vancouver all states except Hawaii and Alaska... having owner-handled over 100 AKC champions (many were Canadian champions as well).  Later I began on the ground floor with the Polish Lowland Sheepdog, also a rare breed from Poland.  Obviously my heart has been in rare breeds all along.  It has been thrilling to breed and show the Siberians who have become one the most popular breeds of kitties!

We decided to purchase a beautiful Siberian

Leda imported from Russia

Leda, our first Siberian, is from the famous Russian Dauria line. With more research we found Jenny Carter in England and imported Erek in 2005, now a Grand Champion and #1 USA Siberian for 2006-07 and 2007-08 (ACFA & UFO), Gracie in 2006, and then in January 2008, Gracie, Hector and Chita....

Pictured above, Erek is now retired from the show ring. He is home living the life of a Czar... he loves to sneak out the front door and run around to the back, up the tree and across the lanai screen and on to the roof... his thrill!  He is a fabulous guy and so personable and outgoing... in his show days, he wowed the judges! He loves the babies and often babysits!

This neva masquerade kitten is an Erek son. Ja Ja MaKsmillian (Max) is so much like his father... very loving, calm and smart. Although he is still a baby, he is exploring and independent. He loves being held, a real lap kitty.

Siberians are highly intelligent, entertaining, engaging, and sociable. These special attributes make for easy learning/training. Siberians are  powerful kitties, but rarely injure their human friends, even in play. They purr very loudly and love to head butt their favorite humans. They quickly establish communication through body language. They purr, meow, and chirp. Because of the reasons given above -- and many others, Siberians are rapidly becoming the pet of choice for many families.

Jim and I love our feline family as though they were our 'kids.'  Because of the overwhelming adoptees' satisfaction, we thoroughly enjoy working with prospective adoption individuals. If you are interested in adopting a Siberian kitty or kitten you may want to contact us to reserve one of the new babies before the one you have an eye on is chosen .

 What is a Siberian Kitty?

Siberians are a rare breed, a Russian forest kitty, native to the Taiga, the largest natural forest remaining on earth and a place where the climate fluctuates to extremes.  The Siberian, a natural breed, is Russia's national cat.  During the summer, in the Taiga temperatures can top 100 degrees and in the winter may reach 80 degrees below zero.

To survive in these climatic conditions the Siberian evolved into a well-developed and muscular breed, with a medium-long low-maintenance coat requiring little or no grooming.

In the winter the Siberian's triple-layer water-resistant fur is full and dense, but will shed somewhat in the summer. Most of our kitties shed very little throughout the year.  Living in such harsh conditions has produced a very healthy cat with few known health problems.

(Living in Florida below the freeze line, our Siberians do not grow a true winter-type coat. Siberians living further north could become profusely coated).

  Hypoallergenic

The Siberian is different. When the kitty cleans itself, it does not have in its saliva the allergens which create problems. Normally the allergen flakes off and becomes airborne to trigger the allergy symptoms. Long-time breeders began noticing that when people visited the home, those visitors known to have cat allergies could tolerate the Siberian.  Some Siberian breeders believe that the breed may have reduced cat allergens called FEL D1, which is extremely potent. It is an exquisite allergen for some sensitive individuals, meaning that contact with a kitty results in streaming eyes, sneezing and general unhappiness on the human side of the relationship. Secretions from the glands of the skin are the primary source of FEL D1; it is also deposited on the fur through licking it and cleaning it. The Siberian is free of this.

Through years of experience, it was found that Siberians can be adopted by people who have never been able to tolerate - much less own - a cat before!!  This is because the Siberian breed is different from most other kitties, in that it produces very low levels of FEL D1, which in turn means that about 80% of the people who are allergic to other kitties are NOT allergic to Siberians.

We are a cageless cattery where kittens are reared underfoot – protected while they are babies and growing. When they are mature enough they have the run of the house and can go in and out (we have a huge enclosed lanai) and we live on the water.

The kitties love to watch the water fowl, ducks, birds, anoles, chameleons, etc.. they just love feeling the warm breezes and smelling the fresh air. We attribute the healthiness of our Ja Ja kitties to being free to move here and there and have plenty of fresh air… no caging in solitary confinement… no separate special room in the house for us!!!!

 Princess Ja Ja Ivana

Ivana, above, is a red McTabby and white kitten just coming up to three months of age. She has deep-dark copper colored eyes. Ivana is a quick study and learns quickly. She is a little dynamo gal who would love to be in a harness and walking on a leash. Like all Siberians, she is very agile... playful, intelligent, yet a lap kitten who comes and sleeps on our bed. She is now ready for her new home. The red females are somewhat rare. To produce a red princess, both parents must carry the red gene.
